Colico (Lake of Como), July 23/25, 2009
The Musicians for Human Rights, young talented people coming from all over the world, gather on Lake Como as guests of the “Music Festival sull’Acqua” of Colico, coming together for the first time to form the Human Rights Orchestra, under the direction of the founder of the initiative, Alessio Allegrini. The HRO with its music, determination and ideals, comes to Colico with a precise objective: to talk about the Right to Education, and to gather funds to help the Association Al Kamandjati to rebuild a music school which has been destroyed in Jenin (Palestine).

“Closing Concert”
The concert opened with a story of rights denied: the story of Randa, a Palestinian girl born in a refugee camp in Lebanon, wounded during a heavy bombardment, and growing up without the possibility to cultivate her passion for music. A conference on education and creativity followed. This was an important moment of meditation and in depth analysis on the real ability of music and art to effect creative growth in our young people. The funds raised during the concert have been given to the non-profit organization Kamadjati, a cultural association operating in Palestine to create music schools in the occupied territories and in refugee camps, which aklready has hundreds of students.
